Below we are sharing some of the most recent kitchen countertops trends we have observed when remodeling kitchens and installing new countertops in the Charlotte NC area. Kitchen countertops (and kitchen islands) are one of the most important design choice for your kitchen. Choosing a great countertops for your kitchen will impact its style and its overall look.
Quartz countertops are leading the pack

Quartzite countertops are gaining ground
Kitchen Islands as a focal point of interest
Kitchen islands have been in high demand and that trend is not changing in 2022. Rather than serving just a utilitarian function, kitchen islands are now becoming a discussion piece and central focal point in kitchens. Designing a kitchen island that is a different color or design that the perimeter cabinets has become common in modern kitchens. Contrasting countertops material and cabinet color from the rest of the kitchen brings out kitchen islands and makes them standout rather than blending in. Some favorites we have seen are kitchen islands with blue cabinetry and white top marble that stand out from the rest of the kitchen. Very smart look.

Waterfall islands
Water islands keep on being popular for 2022. If you are unfamiliar with what a waterfall island is, it’s basically a kitchen island with a 90 degree mitered turn at the edge that extends all the way to the floor. This a contemporary look favored by homeowners who like modern homes and kitchens that looks refined. This look can be achieved with quartz, quartzite, soapstone and some dark granites. Matching the side and top of the kitchen island is important for a continuous look.
Thick-looking countertops
For a more luxurious look, going thick with countertop edges is in. The countertops its is not made thicker per say and it would make it much more expensive and heavier to move around. Rather, the thicker look is achieved by creating an edge profile that is thicker. Countertops are usually around 3 cm thick. The edge profile could 4 to 5 cm giving the illusion of at thick kitchen countertop altogether.
